Free Pop-Up COVID-19 Testing Coming To Avon Lake

AVON LAKE, OH — A free pop-up COVID-19 testing event will be held in Avon Lake.

Lorain County Public Health and the Ohio National Guard will run the testing site for two days, starting Wednesday. The Ellen Trivanovich Aquatic Center, 32850 Electric Blvd., will host the event.

Testing runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday. Testing is open to anyone age 2 and older.

Participants will need to wear a face covering when they drive-thru or walk up to get tested. Participants do not need to have symptoms of the virus, a doctor's order, an appointment, an ID card or medical insurance to get tested.

Results will take approximately three days. Lorain County Public Health officials will follow up with anyone who tests positive and lives in the county. Anyone who lives outside of Lorain County but gets tested at the site will be contacted by their county health department.

Medics will be administering PCR tests (not antigen tests). Gov. Mike DeWine recently received what's believed to be a false positive using an antigen test.

"Testing for COVID-19 is critical to helping stop the spread of this virus. It saves lives. When we’re able to test more individuals in a community it allows us to quickly identify infected individuals and isolate them. In that way, it helps us contain and decrease the spread of illness so we can go on the offense against this virus," Avon Lake officials said.
