Free program filing assistance available throughout February

Feb. 12—HARRISBURG — Department of Revenue (DOR) representatives will be available at community centers throughout the commonwealth in the coming weeks to offer free assistance to those who need help filing their Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) program applications.

Representatives at the centers will also offer assistance in filing Pennsylvania personal income tax returns (PA-40s).

The recent expansion of the PTRR program has resulted in new eligibility for many Pennsylvanians.

"With the historic expansion of the PTRR program, there are nearly 175,000 people who are newly eligible for a rebate. We know from our experience that many of our fellow Pennsylvanians benefit from having a face-to-face conversation with one of our experienced representatives who can help guide them through the filing process," Revenue Secretary Pat Browne said.

Representatives will be in Northumberland County from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 21 and 28 at the Coal Region Adult Community Center at 2 E. Arch St. in Shamokin and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the Sunbury Senior Center at 601 Pennsylvania Ave.

In Snyder County, assistance will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 22 at the Selinsgrove Senior Center at 8 N. Water St. and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the Penns Creek Senior Center at 3551 Richard Road.

Representatives will be in Union County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Lewisburg Senior Center at 116 N. Second St.

Applicants who need assistance with the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program application (PA-1000) should check the eligibility guidelines on the PTRR Program, which benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older, according to the DOR.

Taxpayers who need assistance with the Pennsylvania personal income tax return (PA-40) should bring their tax information/income statements, a photo identification card (driver's license, etc.) and Social Security cards for themselves and their dependents, the DOR said.
