Towns in Monroe County are beginning to announce plans for distributing free COVID-19 rapid at-home test kits. The county bought 750,000 kits, which each contain two tests, to slow the spread of the virus going into the holiday season. Of that total, 250,000 kits are being set aside for school-age children. The other 500,000 are going to municipalities, some of which have announced how they will get them into the hands of residents. The number of kits going to each community varies, but none will get as many kits as residents, so it’ll be first come, first served.

#CocoaBombsBack

Last year’s holiday food fad is back. Called cocoa bombs, they are hollow spheres of chocolate placed in a cup and covered with hot liquid. The sphere melts and releases its contents — usually hot cocoa mix, marshmallows and other add-ins that float to the top. While “bomb” overstates the experience, they are fun and interactive and produce a tasty cup of hot cocoa. Here is where you can buy them around town.

#FertilityFraud

In the Rochester region, three OB/GYNs have been suspected of using their own sperm to impregnate women who came to them for help with conceiving children. Only in one of these cases — recent allegations in a lawsuit against Dr. Morris Wortman — have the allegations become public. However, the Democrat and Chronicle also has learned of similar allegations against two other Rochester-area doctors. One of the physicians died this year. The Democrat and Chronicle is trying to reach relatives or attorneys of that person. The third this year was brought to the attention of the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office. It declined to identify the doctor.

See you Thursday.
