Free ride for truck driving school available from Michigan Works!

GAYLORDMichigan Works! Northeast Consortium is offering free truck driving school to help individuals obtain a Class A Commercial Drivers License for a career as a commercial truck driver.

Those looking to get into a truck-driving career, as well as those looking to enhance their skillset in their current job, are encouraged to apply. Truck driving school training programs usually run from three to four weeks.

Commercial Driver's License (CDL) drivers are in high-demand in the region. Qualified applicants can obtain a credential within a few weeks. The average hourly wage in the region for a CDL driver is about $39 per hour.

Upon completion of the program, Michigan Works! will connect graduates with employers in the area.

Michigan Works! is offering free CDL training with any approved truck driving school. Those who qualify must start classes by June 30.

To be eligible for this training opportunity, individuals must be 18 years or older, have earned a high school diploma or GED, have a Social Security card and have a driver's license or state ID.
