Free school supplies, information for parents available during Back to School fair Aug. 3

Portage Job and Family Services is announcing changes to its Healthy Aging Grant program.

Portage County Job and Family Services will host a Back to School Health and Wellness Fair 4-6:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at the OhioMeansJobs Center parking lot, 253 S. Chestnut St., Ravenna.

The free event is sponsored by AmeriHealth Caritas Ohio, Humana Healthy Horizons in Ohio, Akron Children’s Hospital, Firm Foundation Ministry and more than 30 additional community partners.

Residents who attend with their school-aged children can get a free backpack, school supplies and health and wellness items. Participants also may attend workshops, participate in family-friendly games, contests and activities, face painting and register for prizes. Free snacks will be available.

Mental Health and Recovery Board of Portage County will present a free workshop and school stress and the importance of sleep, while experts from Townhall II will discuss vaping dangers.

More than 30 community partners will have tables set up to give participants access to local resources and information. Staff from Portage County Job and Family Services also will be processing applications on-site for the PRC Back to School Clothing Voucher program.
