Free shuttle service from Maggie Trejo Supercenter to Maxey Swimming Pool began Thursday after the City of Lubbock previously announced Montelongo Pool would be closed for the summer.

Free, direct Citibus service from the center, located at 3200 Amherst St., to the pool, located at 4007 30th St., will run from 12:45 p.m. to 6:05 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with buses departing every 30 minutes.

Riders must wear shoes, must be dry to board the bus and must be accompanied by someone 18 years of age or older if the rider is under 16 years of age.

The City of Lubbock announced June 15 that Montelongo Pool in Rodgers Park would remain closed throughout the summer season for repairs. During preseason opening procedures, crews discovered a leak in the water balance tank, which is an essential filtration component to keep the pool water level constant, the city said. During initial repairs, the contractor discovered more issues that need immediate attention, and repairing those will take significant time.

Maxey Pool, as well as Clapp Pool and Mae Simmons Pool, are currently open Tuesday through Sunday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

More information on the city-operated pools is on the Parks and Recreation website at playlubbock.com. Additional info on bus routes and times is at citibus.com.
