Free Tax Aid For Eligible Residents Offered By Montgomery County

GERMANTOWN, MD — Montgomery County residents earning $56,000 or less a year can receive free tax preparation services through the Community Action Agency's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, according to government officials.

The IRS-sponsored program will be moving online due to COVID-19. Eligible residents can schedule a virtual appointment for their 2019 and 2019 amended tax returns.

Appointments are available on weekdays during regular business and evening hours. The phone number is 240-777-1123.

This year, Community Action's VITA program served 1,746 individuals and families, helping these households receive nearly $4 million in tax refunds, according to county officials. It's the only year-round tax preparation service in the county.
