Free tax help available in Portage County

AARP Foundation is providing free tax assistance and preparation through its Tax-Aide program.

Portage County has three AARP tax preparation sites: Reed Memorial Library (Mondays), Streetsboro United Methodist Church (Wednesdays and Thursdays), and Kent United Methodist Church (Fridays and Saturdays).

Appointments are required and can be made in Portage County by calling 211. Taxpayers may wait while their taxes are prepared or return for a later appointment to review their return. A certified counselor files the return electronically. Tax preparation concludes in early April.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest volunteer-based free tax preparation service. Volunteers are trained and IRS-certified every year to ensure they understand the latest changes to the U.S. Tax Code. Taxpayers do not need to be older adults or AARP members to use this service.
