Here are free tax preparation options in the High Desert

It's tax season and there are free tax preparation services available in the High Desert for those eligible, San Bernardino County officials reported.

The Internal Revenue Service announced that Jan. 29 was the official start date of the nation's 2024 tax season when the agency will begin accepting and processing 2023 tax returns.

The IRS expects more than 128.7 million individual tax returns to be filed by the April 15 tax deadline.

Free tax services

Free tax preparation services are available to eligible individuals and families whose combined income was less than $64,000 in 2023.

Those who worked in 2023, may be eligible to receive the:

  • California Earned Income Tax Credit, for a refund of up to $3,529

  • Federal Earned Income Tax Credit, for a refund of up to $7,430

In San Bernardino County’s First District, tax preparation sites are located at:

  • Transitional Assistance Departments, Hesperia and Victorville

  • IEHP Community Resource Center, Victorville

  • Solera at Apple Valley, Apple Valley

  • High Desert America's Job Center, Victorville

  • County libraries in Hesperia, Phelan and Wrightwood

  • Hope Through Housing at Impressions, Victorville

  • Apple Valley Preschool Services Department

Seniors

First District seniors may qualify for free tax preparation services at the following senior center sites:

  • Apple Valley Senior Citizens Center: Tuesdays 8 a.m. to noon until April 9

  • Victorville Senior Citizens Club: Wednesdays 9 a.m. to noon until April 10

  • Hesperia Leisure League: Thursdays 8 to 11:30 a.m. until April 11
