Free Thanksgiving meals in 2023: Where you can find them in and around Indianapolis

The holidays are a busy, expensive time of year and not everyone can devote hours or resources in preparing a Thanksgiving dinner. For those in need of a free meal this year, IndyStar has collected a list of places around Indianapolis and Central Indiana where you can get Thanksgiving turkeys or meals at no cost.

Free Thanksgiving Dinner - George T. Goodwin Community Center

What: The George T. Goodwin Community Center invites its community, friends and family to join them for a Thanksgiving Dinner.

When: Noon - 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17.

Where: George T. Goodwin Community Center, 3913 W Mooresville Road, Indianapolis.

Watkins Family Center Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway

What: Free turkeys will be given out at the Watkins Family Center at Watkins Park. The event is sponsored by Janet Easley and Bobbie Jones.

When: 9 a.m. until all the turkeys are gone, Saturday, Nov. 18.

Where: Watkins Park, 2360 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St., Indianapolis.

EMCC Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner Drive-Thru

What: The Edna Martin Christian Center will host its annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, providing hot meals that include a traditional dish of turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls and pie. The food will be distributed via drive-thru or walk-up.

When: 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Where: Edna Martin Christian Center at 37 Place, 2605 East 25th St., Indianapolis.

More: The meals are available at no cost to residents of Martindale Brightwood and its surrounding communities while supplies last.

Thanksgiving Food Box Giveaway

What: Redeeming Love Church in Noblesville is giving away food boxes with milk, eggs, meats, snacks and other items.

When: 2-6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 22

Where: Redeeming Love Church, 1950 Conner St, Suite C, Noblesville.

Irvington Community Thanksgiving Dinner

What: The Irvington Community Thanksgiving Dinner is a community-wide effort to ensure everyone has a place to go and a warm meal to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day.

When: Doors open at 11 a.m. for Social Hour. Dinner served from noon-2 p.m.

What: The Mozel Sanders Foundation will distribute meals on Thanksgiving Day while supplies last.

Good Samaritan Network

What: A Thanksgiving Day drive-thru meal will be provided at three Hamilton County sites for those looking for a free meal. All assistance is first come, first served to Hamilton County residents and requires an application.

When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23

Where: White River Christian Church, 1685 N. 10th St., Noblesville; Sheridan Community Center 300 E. 6th St., Sheridan; St. Louis de Montfort 11441 Hague Road, Fishers.

Feast of Plenty

What: The Lisa Muegge Feast of Plenty will host its annual Thanksgiving Day celebration by providing meal delivery and carry-out for residents.

When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23

Where: This year there will be two food distribution locations: Hancock County 4-H building, 620 N. Apple St., Greenfield and the Rushville Elks Club, 223 E 3rd St., Rushville.

Plainfield's Free Thanksgiving Dinner

What: A free Thanksgiving dinner will be presented by Plainfield Christian Church. Dine-in, drive-thru and meal delivery will be available. No reservations are required for dine-in or drive-thru.

When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 23.

Where: Guilford Township Community Center at Hummel Park, 1500 S. Center St., Plainfield.

More: Deliveries will be available to Guilford Township residents or those without transportation. Call 317-839-2384 to request delivery. All requests must be made by 4 p.m. Nov. 20.
