A four-part docuseries about the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will debut later this month.

A premiere screening of "Black History Honors," produced by Chicago-based multimedia company Central City Productions, will take place Monday, Jan. 30, at the Freedom Center. The release is in honor of Black History Month.

According to a press release, the series, directed by East End resident and 29-time Emmy winner Alphonzo "Zo" Wesson III, honors the heroes of the underground railroad. It is hosted by Grammy award-winning artist Mali Music and National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial. The series also features musical tributes by popular gospel artists.

He hopes to do this annually and feature a new Black museum each year.

"The unique perspective of our 'Black History Honors' series honors the lives and legacies of the underground railroad freedom activists," Jackson said. "As well, in this post-COVID season, where African American museums are struggling to maintain and increase attendance, our series (emphasizes) the fact that Black history and Black museums matter."

Following the premiere, "Black History Honors" will air in over 200 television markets between Feb. 4 and March 5. The series will also air on Bounce TV on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 1:30 p.m. ET.
