‘Freedom and dignity are trampled’ by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, says King Charles in Bundestag

“We are deeply shocked by the destruction, but we can be encouraged by our unity when it comes to defending Ukraine, peace, and freedom,” His Majesty said, speaking in German.

King Charles also hailed the United Kingdom and Germany’s role as the biggest European donors to Ukraine.
“Germany’s decision to provide such military support to Ukraine is considered to be very welcome and very important by the world at large,” the monarch said.

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla arrived in Berlin on March 29. This is the monarch’s first state visit abroad since the beginning of his reign.
The royal couple met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender and plan to visit Hamburg.
The last state visit of the late British Queen Elizabeth II to Germany took place in 2015. As the Prince of Wales, Charles made 28 official visits to Germany.
