Freehold police evacuate Hull Avenue homes Sunday after explosive discovered

FREEHOLD BOROUGH — Police evacuated homes around Hull Avenue Sunday night after a resident discovered an explosive device, according to borough police.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the immediate area was evacuated until the device could be examined," Freehold Borough Police spokesman Captain Ronnie Steppat said in a Facebook post. "After an investigation by the State Police it was determined that the device was now inert and there was no danger to the public."

Police did not say what kind of explosive device was discovered.

Residents were permitted back to their homes and the device was removed, according to authorities.

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department, Freehold Borough Fire Department and Freehold Borough First Aid Squad also assisted at the scene.
