FREEPORT — Fire Chief Brad Liggett, 55, died suddenly on Saturday, the city of Freeport announced Sunday afternoon.

Liggett served the Freeport Fire Department since July 2019.

He worked previously for the city of Beloit Fire Department for 30 years and served as Beloit's fire chief for 16 years.

In December 2021, Liggett was elected to be the First Vice President of the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association.

Funeral arrangements will be made available through Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home in Beloit.

"The city sends its sincere condolences to Chief Liggett’s wife, family and friends, and the city of Beloit Fire Department," officials said in a news release.
