Freeport's Frith signs with Davenport football

FREEPORT -- When Uriah Frith visited Division II Davenport University in Grant Rapids, Michigan, he knew.

The campus, the community, the hospitality, the culture of a young football program coming off an 8-3 playoff season ... this was his future home. On Wednesday the Freeport senior etched that future in front of family, friends, teammates and coaches on National Signing Day.

Yes, from rural 1A to Division II, Frith cashed in those 147 tackles (29 for a loss) over the last two years for the Bulldogs.

"Uriah has earned this opportunity and overcome so much through his four years. It truly is an inspiration to anyone who feels like they don't have a chance," Freeport head coach Shaun Arntz said. "From the classroom to the weight room to the locker room and the games, he grew so much during his time with us."
