FREMONT - It has been three years since the Kiwanis Pancake Festival has had dine-in meals.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 forced the pancake festival to become a drive-thru only event. But on Wednesday, Victor's Banquet Hall was full of people returning from all over for a stack of pancakes. A line at the front door formed for dining in, and another line formed for pick-up.

The front desk was busy taking prepay tickets plus those who paid up front. The parking lot was busy with lines of cars and volunteers from the Key Club were helping park customers' cars.

“People wanted it in person,” said Kiwanis Vice President Jenny Freeh. “That’s all we heard last year is, 'When can we dine-in and enjoy each other's company?'”

The pancake plates served Wednesday came with sausage, milk, coffee, or water plus for those dining-in there were unlimited pancakes.

The Kiwanis Club used members of the Key Club from Fremont Ross and St. Joseph Central Catholic high schools to help other volunteers with providing another round of pancakes for patrons and filling coffee and water cups. Some youths were helping with the sitting of patrons coming in.

“You guys are doing an awesome job, this is the first time I been able to attend, I am usually working,” said Janet Ohms, who attended the event.

“This is an amazing community,” said Kiwanis member Jodi Albright. “The Key Club is doing an amazing job helping us with this event."

Kiwanis international has been holding the pancake festivals for 63 years and the funds go right back into the community for projects such as the Kiwanis Play Park that is now in Phase 2 of construction. Other club services include providing hot chocolate to the safety guards for the schools.
