French pharmacies make amoxicillin amid shortage

STORY: French pharmacies are producing children’s antibiotics amid a medicine shortage

and an ‘explosion’ in demand

The amoxicillin capsules made in this pharmacy will be shipped across the country

It’s one of 40 pharmacies producing amoxicillin at the request of a French health agency

(Fabien Bruno, Pharmacy owner)

"The pharmaceutical industry has been producing less for two years now because people have been less sick. So, the industry's production capacity has dropped. For the past two months, people have been getting sicker and sicker, so there has been an explosion in the demand for amoxicillin.”

Bruno says the French agency wants pharmacies to make one-third of what’s needed for kids

The small-scale production is expected to last until early March
