French cinema icon Brigitte Bardot was treated by firefighters this week at her home due to trouble breathing, according to local outlets.

Firefighters treated the 88-year-old “Viva Maria!” star for an illness at her residence in Tropez at around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, Bardot’s husband, Bernard d’Ormale told local outlet Var Matin.

“The ambulances got the wrong address,” said d’Ormale, noting that his wife’s breathing “was harder than usual but she didn’t lose consciousness.”

Bardot was given oxygen and was under observation “for a moment,” according to her husband’s account.

The BAFTA-nominated actress, who was complaining of the heat for days prior to the incident, will be resting at their home, sans assistance for her breathing, d’Ormale told the outlet.

“Like all people of a certain age, she can no longer bear the heat,” he said. “It happens at 88, she must not make unnecessary efforts.”

Bardot was allegedly in intensive care last May, according to reports she denied, noting she was “doing very well.

“The press made a scandal with an illness that happened to me in January and which we are making a big fuss about today,” read the animal activist’s note.

The former bombshell’s legacy is a complicated one. In 2008, she was convicted of provoking discrimination and racial hatred against Muslims. In 2020, she also defended embattled director Roman Polanski, noting he is “saving cinema from its mediocrity.”
