Fresno Bee boys soccer All-Stars: Bryan Lopez leads Clovis North sweep of top honors

Bryan Lopez says Clovis North High boys soccer coach Cameron Shahroki gave him “the freedom to be confident” and it helped the Broncos come oh-so-close to an undefeated season.
The senior forward scored 29 goals with 26 assists and is The Fresno Bee Player of the Year.
But he’s not taking all the credit for Clovis North’s 26-1-1 season that ended with a 1-0 loss to Davis in the CIF Northern California Division I final.
Without outstanding play across the field, Lopez said, “We wouldn’t have won all the games. Even all the defenders don’t get the credit that they should get. I get credit for scoring the goals, but we can’t score if we can’t get the ball.”
Shahroki called Lopez the “ultimate attacking threat.
“We had a free position where he can move anywhere on the field and (Lopez is) just super-creating, super hard worker. He’s humble. ... Very rare to find a guy this humble with this much talent.”
Lopez was also named the Tri-River Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He’s undecided where he will play next season.
Coach of the Year: Cameron Shahroki, Clovis North
Shahrokhi has led the Broncos to three Tri-River Athletic Conference championships since taking over the program in 2018. Clovis North was Central Section runner-up that first year.
Then the Broncos broke out this season winning the section championship and setting a school record for wins, according to section historian Bob Barnett.
“This is the best group we’ve had,” Shahroki said. “My first year, a lot of these guys were seventh-graders. We were going through some photos and memories when they first came into our kids camps, fifth-, sixth- and seventh-graders. Incredible group.”
Large School Player of the Year: Hariz Funez, Sunnyside
The senior forward led the Wildcats to a 23-3-3 overall record including 11-1 in the North Yosemite League.
Funez was named the NYL’s Most Valuable Player.
Medium School Player of the Year: Juan Pablo Rodriguez, Riverdale
Rodriguez led the Cowboys with 21 goals as Riverdale finished the season 20-5-4 and 11-1-1 in the Northwest Sequoia League.
Small School Player of the Year: Andres Perez, Lindsay
Perez had 24 goals and 15 assists as the Cardinals finished the season 20-5-4 and 6-0-2 in the East Sequoia League.
