A Fresno cookie baker opening its third shop. There will be free cookies at grand opening
Dad’s Cookies will open its third cookie shop in the Valley this Saturday, in northeast Fresno, not far from Woodward Park.
The shop will be inside Copper Market, a convenience store at the corner of Friant Road and Copper Avenue.
The cookie business was born when owner Lance Sanchez was laid off from his job at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s been growing ever since.
Dad’s first opened inside Rare Earth Coffee, part of the Johnny Quik and Chevron station at the northwest corner of Willow and Alluvial avenues in Fresno.
Then, in August, it opened its Lemoore store at Highway 41 and Bush Street in Day & Night Markets, alongside FURY Hot Chicken.
Dad’s also sells at various pop-up events around town.
The large cookies weigh 5.5 ounces each. Chocolate chip is the most popular, but the business also sells flavors such as cookies and cream, and snickerdoodle.
Free cookies
The grand opening at the newest location runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The first 12 customers will get free cookies (because people who bake cookies for a living tend to think in dozens).
Other customers can spin a wheel for prizes. Sanchez said he expects to give away several dozen free cookies throughout the day.
The cookies are baked on site.
The format of selling inside an established place works for the business, Sanchez said.
“We’ll have foot traffic from people who don’t know who we are — and it works vice versa, we have followers from throughout the Valley who will come get our cookies,” he said.
The business will soon be on various delivery apps, and Sanchez said he hopes to service many of the offices and businesses in the River Park area.
Dad’s also works with a nonprofit organization to help workers develop work, social and resume skills.
Details: Dad’s Cookies is at 1060 E. Copper Ave. Regular hours starting next week are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.
