Fresno County investigators name Fresno woman who drove wrong way, died in head-on crash

The Clovis woman who died after driving the wrong way and crashing head-on with another driver during the weekend was identified Monday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

The California Highway patrol said the 22-year-old was pronounced dead Saturday after the 5:30 a.m. crash on Clovis Avenue, south of Central Avenue — near Malaga, southeast of Fresno.

The coroner’s office said Monday she was Destiny Baker of Fresno. CHP investigators initially reported the victim was from Clovis.

She was headed south in the northbound lane of Clovis Avenue, CHP said, and her Nissan Altima collided head-on with a Toyota RAV4 driven by Ramon Vasquez, 32, of Visalia, CHP said.

Vasquez suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, according to CHP.

She was traveling at an unknown speed before the crash, the CHP said. Her Nissan overturned and came to rest partially in the lane and on the center divider.

The CHP said the she wasn’t wearing a seat belt. It’s not yet known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision, according to the CHP.
