Wide receiver Jordan Pierro and linebacker Tytus Khajavi of Clovis West will be staying home to play college football for Fresno State. El Diamante offensive lineman Marsel Akins, too.

All three made their commitment to coach Jeff Tedford and the Bulldogs last week.

“I’m really familiar with the hometown,” said Pierro, a three-star recruit by 247 Sports. “I always had love in my heart from watching them growing up and watching them perform since I was a kid. Always been a dream of mine.”

Pierro said he enjoyed getting to know Tedford who shared some thoughts of what he sees in him.

“We had a nice long talk,” Pierro said. “He gave me a rundown and the opportunities I would have and how they would take care of me. It’s a four-year decision.”

It was JD Williams who took a liking to Pierro when he saw him at practice in the spring semester.

Pierro was later dealing with a sore throat and was in the nurse’s office when he received a call from Williams.

He knew he had to pick it up. It was the good news he was looking for that Fresno State was offering him.

Last season, Pierro had 38 receptions for 485 yards and five touchdowns.

Impressive camp lands offer

On Tuesday, Khajavi, a three-star recruit, made his commitment to his hometown team.

And it was a quick decision for him after he received an offer from Fresno State on June 18 before he committed.

Khajavi impressed Fresno State coaches at the Bulldogs Prospect Camp.

He had an uncle and a cousin who played for the Bulldogs. It felt natural for him to play at Fresno State.

His cousin? It was Johnny Rojas.

“I just grew up around Bulldogs,” he said. “It’s close to family. I love the culture; love the environment and the coach.”

After the Bulldogs Prospect Camp, Khajavi said Tedford pulled him to the side and offered him.

“He said I’m the right person for them,” he said. “Inside I was bursting with joy. I was like, jeez, I was like ... I don’t know. I was trippin’. I was tired but I was like oh my gosh! ... I actually got an offer from Fresno State.”

Last season, Khajavi finished with 59 tackles and led the Golden Eagles with 7.5 sacks.

Pierro and Khajavi each their pledge to Fresno State was a hard commitment.

Khajavi said his favorite player growing up was Travis Brown, the brother of Clovis West head coach Eric Brown.

He said he’s looking forward to playing for the Bulldogs in two years and can’t wait to play for the Red Wave.

“Definitely that work ethic,” he said. “I never give up. I always bring something nasty and stuff like that because when I go on the field, it’s like I just lock in, not giving up, and I’m going to do the best I can to do my job. Definitely give my hardest and best out of me.”

Akins commits

The three-star made his commitment on Monday.

He is listed at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds. He proclaimed his commitment at 1000% over Colorado State, Nevada, Utah State and Washington State.

He was named to the first team in the East Yosemite League last season.
