FRESNO, Calif. (KGPE) – Jerry Tarkanian and Paul George: what do they both have in common?

They are both Bulldogs who have had their jerseys retired.

On February 24th, that duo becomes a trio when Rod Higgins will have his jersey hang from the rafters at the Save Mart Center. Fresno State announced on Wednesday that Higgins’ jersey will be retired at halftime of the Bulldogs’ game against San Diego State.

Higgins played 13 seasons in the NBA, and he later moved into the front office. Before all of that, he was a two-time all-conference player at Fresno State from 1979-1982. He scored 1,402 points, which is 15th on the school’s all-time scoring list.

“Rod Higgins’ tremendous contributions to Fresno State and the game of basketball make him more than deserving of this honor,” said Fresno State Director of Athletics Terry Tumey in a news release. “We are proud that Rod Higgins’ name will forever hang from the rafters of the Save Mart Center.”

Higgins, an honorable mention all-American in both 1981 and in 1982, led Fresno State to two NCAA Tournament appearances. He was a second-round draft pick by the Chicago Bulls in 1982.
