Friday comedy show will benefit Kokomo veterans

Nov. 8—Comedian Dan West left Kokomo for Atlanta, Georgia, early last year. Months before he left, he performed a comedy show to celebrate the town he grew to love. Then, he returned last year to organize a show that raised money for veterans.

He's returning again this weekend, hoping to raise even more money for the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1152.

"Kokomo has been, for veterans, just willing to really put themselves out there and help out a lot," West said prior to last year's show.

As a former Army intelligence officer who served in Iraq, West has experience with the local VFW.

He has fond memories attending a New Years Eve party, getting his COVID vaccine and simply enjoying the camaraderie of people there who understood his experiences as a veteran.

"There's a lot of good resources out there for veterans to get the help that they need," West said last year. "But one of the things that gets sort of overlooked is the fellowship, the place to go hangout around people who have been through what you've been through."

This year's comedy show will be held Friday in Sun King Kokomo, 500 N. Buckeye St. Doors to the venue are scheduled to open at 6:30 p.m.

Brian Pitre, Dustin Burkert and Chelsea Snedden will join West on stage. Each of the featured comedians are from Indianapolis.

Tickets to the show cost $20 and $5 from each ticket will go to the VFW. You can purchase the tickets online by visiting eventbrite.com and searching for "Veteran's Comedy Show."

West also said he was thankful for the show's sponsors, Marble The Steakhouse, Map of Cook McDoogal's Irish Pub, Hampton Inn & Suites Kokomo and DJ Pugh.
