GENOA TWP. — Faulkwood Shores Golf Club, located just north of Lake Chemung, suffered damage this morning from a fire, according to a fire official at the scene.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office deputies initially were called after a burglar alarm at the club, 300 S. Hughes Road, about 3:30 a.m. Deputies saw flames and called firefighters.

Brighton Area Fire Authority Fire Marshal Rick Boisvert said the blaze caused damage in the kitchen area and dining room.

He said he doesn't believe it was a cooking fire, but the investigation is continuing.

The Faulkwood Shores Golf Course is closed until further notice following the fire incident, according to a Facebook post.

"Attention all golfers," the post said, "due to a fire incident, Faulkwood Shores Golf Course will be closed until further notice. We will give more details in the next couple days. Thank you for understanding. Have a good holiday weekend."

Faulkwood Shores Golf Club first opened in 1969 as a 9-hole facility. The back nine was created two years later.

Golf course representatives did not immediately respond to Facebook and phone messages.
