More:Mario Sgro becoming quite a catch for North Penn football

North Penn was coming off a heartbreaker in the last minute to Upper Dublin at home last week. Neshaminy, after winning its first two games, was coming off a tough loss to Downingtown West. Both teams left it all on the field in a thrilling back-and-forth game that, fittingly, wasn’t decided until overtime.

Knights’ QB Ryan Zeltt finished 19-for-27 passing for 327 yards and four touchdowns. Junior Rashad McNeil led the receivers with four catches for 110 yards, including a 61-yard bomb from Zeltt with 4:37 remaining that temporarily put the Knights up 28-21.

Neshaminy senior Markus Barnett gave about as much as a running back can be asked to give, rushing 38 times for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

More:Unselfish play from Lawson, Stanfield lead Tennent to first win

Something had to give Friday night with both William Tennent and Hatboro-Horsham looking for a win. The Hatters gave it their best effort, but the Panthers went home with their first victory.

Tennent quarterback Tim Lawson rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns, including scoring runs of 49 and 91 yards, and led the Panthers (1-3) past host Hatboro-Horsham, 30-18, in a nonleague contest.

The Hatters (0-3) ran nearly twice as many plays as Tennent and outgained the Panthers by nearly 100 yards, but Tennent held off Hatboro-Horsham down the stretch with a game-clinching 9 minute, 15-play drive that ended with a touchdown by Lawson.

Archbishop Wood 14, Northeast 6

The Vikings started their season two weeks late, had to play Malvern Prep in their first game of the season, and this week, faced a 3-0 Northeast team. You’d never know any of that, though, given the way the Vikings handled business in a 14-6 victory.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Vikings took a 7-0 lead in the second quarter, and a long run by Ryan Wilson made it 14-0 in the third. Northeast scored in the fourth but the Vikings denied the two-point conversion attempt. The win was the first for Vikings’ new head coach Dave Armstrong, who took over in the offseason.
