Friday Night Highlights! Mason Bynum, Brady Pagano lead Hatboro-Horsham to first win since 2019

It's hard to believe, but we've already reached the midway point of the regular season! Week five was chock full of action, as teams try to keep momentum going, or right the ship in hopes of securing a spot in the postseason.

Who was named Week 4's 'Football Player of the Week?'

Pennsbury's Cade Gabbett was voted the Courier Times/Intell's Football Player of the Week after a dominant defensive outing in Week 4.

H.S. football: Jake Mullery's big night helps Pennsbury to 3rd straight victory with win at CB West

The senior linebacker had three sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss and also returned a fumble 70 yards for a touchdown in a 26-21 win over Central Bucks West. Gabbett recieved 46 percent of the vote.

North Penn's Ryan Zeltt received 21 percent of the vote and finished second, while Bristol's Kendell Cottrell was third at 20 percent.

Friday

Hatboro-Horsham 35, Lower Moreland 7

It’s been a long time coming, as the Hatters earned a much-deserved win - their first since November 2019 - on Friday night. The Hatters received standout performances from several players in the win, particularly in the running game.

Mason Bynum rushed for 90 yards and scored two touchdowns, while quarterback Brady Pagano added another 26 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Jaxon Bumpus had 96 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns.

The Hatters, who had a good showing in last week’s loss to Tennent,  had to forfeit several games last season, due to a rash of injuries combined with a small roster size.

Lansdale Catholic 10, Conwell-Egan 0

Lansdale Catholic didn’t have its best night offensively. The defense, though, was another matter, as the Crusaders forced three turnovers and another five turnovers on downs in a 10-0 win over Conwell-Egan to spoil its homecoming night at Henry C. Morgan Stadium.

The Crusaders' lone touchdown came on defense, as a huge hit on Eagles quarterback Stephen Tryon forced a fumble that bounced into the hands of Evan Lojewski. He ran it back 50 yards for what proved to be the game-winner.

Neshaminy 26, Abington 0

H.S. football: Colin Baker, Markus Barnett building something special for Neshaminy

Markus Barnett rushed for 96 yards and three touchdowns Friday night to help Neshaminy defeat Abington, 26-0. Quarterback Colin Baker also ran for a score for Neshaminy (3-2 overall, 1-1 Suburban One League National Conference). Defensively, Travis Lavelah and Collin Giambrone had interceptions.

Pennsbury 28, Central Bucks South 6 

HS Football: Surging Pennsbury football rumbles past Central Bucks South

A stifling defense and explosive running by Galamama Mulbah helped lead surging Pennsbury past Central Bucks South, 28-6, on Friday night. The Falcons, now 4-1 and winners of four straight, allowed the Titans (3-2) to score on their second possession before shutting them down the rest of the way. Meanwhile, Mulbah, a senior, piled up 208 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including a 91-yard bolt in the fourth quarter, to help put things away.

Quakertown 16, Council Rock South 0

After a scoreless first quarter, Quakertown got on the board with a safety after a high snap sailed through the end zone. The Panthers' offense kicked in soon after, and John Eatherton ran in from 1 yard out to give the Panthers an 8-0 halftime lead. It was Eatherton again in the second half, this time scoring on a 76-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Vince Miccuci. Eatherton, who missed the first three games due to injury, then added the two-point conversion to close out the scoring. The Panthers, who hadn’t won since their season opener, improved to 2-3, and CR South fell to 2-3.

Central Bucks West 35, North Penn 14

North Penn scored first, but Vinny Cherubini tied things up for the Bucks, who scored three unanswered touchdowns en route to a huge win. Eli Boehm led the way with 232 rushing yards and three touchdowns on runs of 21, 52 and six yards, as the Bucks (2-3) picked up their second victory of the season. Michai Cuffie and Amir Major both ran in a touchdown for the Knights, who fell to 3-2.

Central Bucks East 16, Pennridge 13 (2 OT)

Jack Corrigan was clutch under pressure, as the Patriots’ kicker booted a field goal through the uprights in double overtime to keep CB East (5-0) undefeated on the season. The game was heavy on defense, with the Patriots’ Pat Keller’s 1-yard plunge over the goal line the only scoring in the first half. In the third, Brennan Fisher returned a kickoff 80 yards to tie things up as the teams went back and forth. Ethan Shine added a 2-yard rushing TD to give the Patriots a 13-7 lead, which didn’t last long as Tyler Wetzel scored on an 8-yard run for the tie. Pennridge, after winning two straight, falls to 2-3.

Souderton 38, Harry S. Truman 0

Caleb Hageman led the way with 127 yards and two touchdowns as the Indians dominated offensively and defensively. Jared Zimmerman threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Grayson Largent, and Ryan Sadowski ran one in from 11 yards. Hageman added a 56-yard TD run to close out the scoring. The defense was also stout in the shutout, recovering a Truman fumble and forcing a turnover on downs.

Palisades 49, Schuylkill Haven 14

The Pirates bounced back in a big way after being shutout last week. Kai Stianson and Steven Lilly both had huge games for the Pirates. Stianson rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns, pulled down a TD reception, and completed two pass attempts for 70 yards. Lilly racked up 281 total yards (211 rushing, 70 receiving) and scored two rushing touchdowns.

Haverford School 35, Archbishop Wood 11

The Vikings had some nice plays on special teams to open their bout with Haverford School, but couldn’t fend off the undefeated Fords.

Cole Evans blocked a field goal and the Vikings recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff and took a brief 3-0 lead on Leo Ricci’s field goal. In the fourth quarter, Frankie Mawson hit Markus Dixon with a long TD pass. The Vikings fell to 1-2, and will have to contend with St. Joe’s Prep next weekend.

Academy of the New Church 35, Bristol 6

The Warriors suffered their first loss of the season against Academy of the New Church. After scoring more than 35 points in each of their wins, the Warriors will look to bounce back next week against BAL opponent Jenkintown (3-1).

Bensalem 22, Council Rock North 14

Freshman Thomas Bailey scored two rushing touchdowns and a pair of interceptions to help lead Bensalem to a 22-14 comeback win over host Council Rock North on Saturday.

Bailey, making his first varsity start, scored touchdowns on both of his carries of 21 and 9 yards.

Upper Moreland 35, New Hope-Solebury 13

Tahir Harris and Hassan Johnson each grabbed an interception on defense, with Johnson returning his pick for a touchdown, as the Golden Bears recorded a decisive win. Stephen Broderick scored two touchdowns in the victory.

Germantown Academy 35, Blair Academy 12

The Patriots were down 12-7 to Blair Academy at halftime, then scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to improve to 4-0. Quarterback Tristan Machado had a huge game, passing for 239 yards and four touchdowns while completing 17-of-27 pass attempts. Aidan Donahue led the way with 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while A.J. Towsen and Evan Spivey each caught a TD. Spivey also returned an interception 70 yards for a score.

Pennington School 14, Morrisville 6
