Forsan's Major Stockton leads the team onto the field before a Class 2A Division I area playoff against New Deal on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021, at Wolf Stadium in Colorado City.

Forsan and Christoval battled for three quarters before there was any action on the scoreboard Friday in a District 3-2A Division I football game in Forsan.

The Buffaloes fell behind 6-0 in the fourth quarter when Manuel Riojas scored from two yards out for the Cougars but Forsan responded with 14 unanswered points and got a defensive stand to sew up a 14-6 win in a battle for the top spot in the district standings.

Kevin Kligora scored on a 21-yard run and Nolan Park’s PAT kick made it 7-6 Forsan. The Buffaloes forced Christoval to punt on its next possession with less than six minutes to play and pushed their lead out further when Cade Wallis hit Bryson Kinsey for a 70-yard TD pass with less than five minutes to play.

Wallis then came up with a big sack on Christoval’s next possession and the Cougars were forced to punt yet again with still four minutes left on the clock but could not get the Buffalo offense off the field for a final rally attempt.

The win pushed Forsan’s overall record to 7-1 but more importantly, 3-0 in district play. The Buffaloes host Ozona next Friday before traveling to Sonora for the district finale on Nov. 4. They have the inside track at a district championship.

Christoval (4-4, 2-1) hosts Sonora before traveling to Reagan County to wrap up district play. Both Sonora and Reagan County have a 2-1 district record, putting them into a tie with Christoval for second place in the standings.
