Friday Night Stars: Who is the Taunton Gazette Football Player of the Week for Week 3

TAUNTON— Another exciting week of high school football action has come and gone in the Greater Taunton area.

Taunton held off a tough challenge from Middleboro in non-league action as they won 24-13 Friday night in their second of two home-away-from-home games at Mansfield's Alumni Stadium to improve to 3-0. Bridgewater-Raynham's explosive backfield burst onto the scene as they earned their first points and win of the season in a 26-10 victory over Barnstable to improve to 1-2. Bristol-Plymouth's backfield also helped carry them to a 34-18 win over Diman as they improved to 2-1 while Dighton-Rehoboth fell to 1-2 on the year after being held scoreless by Oliver Ames in a 35-0 loss in Easton.

Bristol-Plymouth's Ryan Barnes was voted the Taunton Daily Gazette Week 2 Football Player of the Week after receiving 55% of the vote, while Dighton-Rehoboth's Kevin Gousie Jr. came in second with 10% of the vote and his teammate Joel DaSilva finished third with nine percent.

As always, some players stood out above the rest, but only one can be named the Taunton Daily Gazette Week 3 Football Player of the Week. Voting is open until noon on Sunday, Oct. 2, and is limited to one vote per device per hour.

Here are the Week 3 nominees:

Malachi Johnson, Taunton

Johnson had 19 carries for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Middleboro.

Tanner Brannon, Taunton

Brannon recovered a fumble for a touchdown and had a tackle for a loss against Middleboro.

Dawson DuBose, Bridgewater-Raynham

DuBose had 35 carries for 190 yards and a touchdown against Barnstable.

Charles Swenson, Bridgewater-Raynham

Swenson recovered a fumble on the first defensive play of the game against Barnstable.

Ryan Barnes, Bristol-Plymouth

Barnes had 17 carries for 160 yards and three touchdowns against Diman.

Josh Pierre, Bristol-Plymouth

Pierre returned a kickoff for a touchdown against Diman.

Cole Bilodeau, Dighton-Rehoboth

Bilodeau had 16 carries for 60 yards against Oliver Ames.

Destin Michener, Dighton-Rehoboth

Michener had five tackles, two of which were for a loss, and a sack against Oliver Ames.
