Duplain delivers dramatic grand slam for Massillon softball

MASSILLON — Mariah Duplain hit a grand slam to key a five-run bottom of the sixth inning as the Massillon softball team rallied for a 7-5 win against Hoban on Friday at Genshaft Park.

After Alyssa Simmons drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk to force in a run and cut Hoban’s lead to 5-3, Duplain worked the count to 2-2 before putting the Tigers in the lead with one swing of her bat.

Duplain and Jayda Harrison each went 2-for-3. Harrison hit a solo home run and scored twice as Massillon improved to 8-1.

Seesaw win gives Jackson baseball sole possession of first place in Federal League

LAKE TWP. — Travis Feucht’s two-run single with the bases loaded keyed a four-run top of the sixth inning and propelled the Jackson baseball team to a 7-6 win at Lake on Friday in Federal League action.

A third run came around to score on the play because of a Lake misplay as Jackson took the lead for good in this seesaw contest at 7-4.

Garrett Wright tripled and singled and Alex Snyder had two hits for the Polar Bears (10-3, 5-1), who gained the sweep from Lake after beating the Blue Streak 2-0 on Thursday. Jackson moves a half game ahead of Green (4-1) for first place in the league.

Jack Faflik pitched 2.1 innings of relief to get the win. Caden Goodwin got the final out for the save after Lake had scored twice in the bottom of the seventh on a Grant Nehrenz single to cut its deficit to a run.

Nehrenz drove in four runs overall for the Blue Streaks.
