Friday roundup: East Canton boys share track and field regional championship with McDonald
PERRY TWP. — The East Canton boys track and field team will head to Columbus next weekend as a regional co-champion.
The Hornets tied for first Friday with McDonald during the Division III regional meet at Perry High School. It was tight at the top, with Norwayne’s 59 points placing it third, two points behind East Canton and McDonald.
On the girls side, Lake Center’s Medgine Wojton highlighted the Stark County athletes by winning the 100 meters in 12.48 seconds and finishing second in the 200 in 26.09.

The East Canton boys 1,600 relay of Austin Jones, Lucas McCauley, Nick Martino and Landen Demos won in a time of 3:25.17. That goes nicely with the Hornets’ 3,200 relay of Martino, Demos, Brylan Holland and Gabe Shilling, which won Wednesday.
Holland was an individual champion Friday, winning in the 3,200 in 9:26.44.
Shilling was second in the 1,600 (4:18.27) and third in the 3,200 (9:42.64) to qualify for Columbus. The top four finishers in each event advanced to the state meet.
Demos (1:57.11) and Martino (1:57.25) were third and fourth, respectively, in the 800, right behind Central Catholic’s Max Grillo. Grillo’s 1:55.07 would be the facility record if not for United’s Kaleb Nastari running a Division III state record of 1:51.41 in the same race.
East Canton’s Brennan Betz was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 15.75.
