Friday Roundup: Escambia baseball powers by Pine Forest behind big fifth inning

Baseball

Escambia 8, Pine Forest 4

The Gators didn't get a lead until late, but when they surged ahead, the hosts made sure it would stand against the Eagles.

Escambia used a five-run fifth inning to emerge with its fifth win in its last seven games. Additionally, the victory sealed the program's sixth-straight winning season.

Tate Sanders smacked a two-run double in the fifth to put the hosts up for good.

Pine Forest scored the game's first two runs in the top of the first. With the game tied at 2-2, the visitors regained the lead with a run in the fourth.

However, Isaac Bates entered in relief and shut down the Eagles from that point on. The sophomore allowed a run on one hit and three walks through 3 1/3 innings of relief to earn the victory.

Offensively, the Gators got two hits apiece from Cameron Larocca, Anthony Hall and Blake Clonts. Larocca and Clonts each scored twice while Clonts and Hall each had a double.

Improving its record to 13-9 this season, Escambia is host to Fort Walton Beach at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Pine Forest (11-8) returns home at 6 p.m. Tuesday to face Pensacola.

Pace 4, Milton 3

The Patriots celebrated Senior Night with a close win at home against the Panthers. It was Pace's third consecutive win as the team improved its record to 18-3.

Leading the hosts offensively was Brent Cadenhead. The senior second baseman went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the bottom of the second. He would later plate a run in the fourth on a base hit from Brock Warner to make it 3-2.

Fellow senior Broc Parmer helped add a needed run in the sixth when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Owen Walters to double the cushion at 4-2.

Milton notched a run in the seventh, but Tanner Sauls closed out the visitors to end the game. The sophomore pitcher earned the victory after entering the game in the second.

The visitors mustered two hits against Sauls and senior Bryson Scott, who started on the mound. Both of those hits came from Drake Densman. The sophomore finished 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Pace plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Pensacola Catholic. The Panthers (4-17) play at 7 p.m. Monday at Niceville.

Crestview 19, West Florida 9

The Jaguars relinquished a season-high 19 runs during a home loss to the Bulldogs. Falling to the .500 mark at 11-11, West Florida has dropped its last two games after winning its previous four.

Despite the difference in runs, each team put up 13 hits. However, Crestview drew 11 walks against five Jaguars pitchers.

Branden Hardtke paced the home team with three hits while Gavin King, Hoot Rathbun and Tyler Pinney each had two hits.

West Florida looks to rebound at 6:30 p.m. Monday at home against Gulf Breeze.

Paxton 6, Central 1

One night after taking the front end of a home-and-home series with the Bobcats, the Jaguars had their three-game winning streak snapped with a home loss to Paxton.

The hosts were held to four hits and also committed four errors. Payton Holland led the Jaguars after going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sayler Melton, Ty Aguilar and Seth Taylor each had a hit.

Taylor took the loss on the mound after allowing six runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk through 5 2/3 innings of work.

Central (13-10) plays at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Booker T. Washington.

Rocky Bayou Christian 20, Aletheia Christian Academy 3 (F/3)

Allowing 14 runs in the first inning, the Lions couldn't keep up with the Knights in Niceville. Stats were unavailable. Aletheia Christian ended its regular season with a 0-11 record.

Softball

Milton 17, Escambia 1 (F/3)

The Panthers put up a season-high 17 runs in a rout on the road over the Gators.

Milton had 15 hits, including three home runs. Anyaliz Rodriguez, Hallie Ueberroth and Briana Willis all went deep for the visitors. Rodriguez and Willis each had two hits and a team-high four RBIs.

Audrey Luedtke went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Laila Manning had a 2-for-3 night at the plate with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored. Autumn Anderson also chipped in two hits.

Meanwhile, Kayla Willis earned the win in the pitcher's circle. Finishing with three strikeouts, the sophomore allowed a run on two hits and four walks through three innings of work.

Escambia stats were unavailable.

The Panthers (11-6) end the regular season at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pace. On the same day, Escambia (6-16) plays at West Florida.

Gulf Breeze 8, Northview 6

The Dolphins captured their third win in a row after knocking off the Chiefs on the road.

Northview pulled ahead 4-2 by putting up three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Gulf Breeze answered with three runs in the sixth and tacked on three important insurance runs in the seventh. The home team scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, but its comeback attempt fell short.

Highlighted by a triple, Ava Chapman posted a Dolphins-best three hits. Leila Ammon went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Sophie Mislevy was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI.

Chiefs stats were unavailable.

Gulf Breeze (13-8) next plays at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Navarre. Northview (9-11) takes on Central Christian (Ala.) at 4 p.m. Monday from Robertsdale.

Paxton 7, Central 6

Despite knotting the game in the top of the seventh inning, the visiting Jaguars could not stop the Bobcats from taking a walk-off victory.

The road team scored three runs in the first and two more in the fifth before tying the game in the seventh. The hosts responded with a run in the last of the seventh.

Central stats were unavailable. Haylee Hayes, Mya Young, Cassie Varnum and Emily Ward each had two hits, with Varnum posting a Paxton-best three RBIs.

Seeing their three-game winning streak snapped, the Jaguars (8-6) are host to Pensacola Catholic at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Flag Football

Choctaw 33, Pace 26

The Patriots lost for just the second time this season after a barnburner on the road against the Indians. As a result, Pace's eight-game winning streak came to an end.

For the second-straight game, Patriots freshman Amaya Pablo had three touchdown passes. Her scores were thrown to Berkleigh Jernigan, Shelby Crooks and Ava Wheaton. Ashten Dickerson added an interception touchdown return.

Pace next opens as the top seed in the District 1-2A tournament. The Patriots are host to Escambia at 6 p.m. Monday.
