Friday roundup: Green boys basketball back in first place in Federal League, Marlington pulls away from Louisville

GREEN 36, HOOVER 31 Brady Rollyson scored 10 points and the Bulldogs grinded out a home win to move into sole possession of first place in the Federal League.

Green (13-2, 5-2), which won despite shooting 4-for-15 from the foul line and league-leading scorer Zack Oddo finishing with seven points, jumps ahead of Jackson (8-6, 5-3) after Lake (10-4, 5-3) beat the Polar Bears on Friday.

Green built a 28-18 lead through three quarters before holding on to avenge a 46-41 loss at Hoover back on Dec. 7.

Eli Barker led Hoover (10-4, 4-4) with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Tanner Ware added 10 points for the Vikings, who have dropped two straight league games with last week's double-overtime loss at Jackson.

CENTRAL CATHOLIC 51, PERRY 47 OT Jack Talkington scored all eight of the visiting Crusaders’ points in overtime as Central gained a win in the hardwood edition of the Battle of 13th Street.

Talkington led Central (9-5) with 13 points. Gavin Shamblen and Jack Bruckner added 10 points each.

Joel Brown scored 15 points to lead Perry (0-13), while Luke Wolf added 11 points and Coleman Anderson 10.

GLENOAK AT MCKINLEY, PPD. Friday's game at Memorial Field House was postponed because of health and safety protocols. No makeup date has been set.

ALLIANCE 61, MINERVA 57 Stephen Gales scored 14 points while Gage Ford and Diego Allen scored 13 each as the Aviators earned their 10th win of the season with an EBC home victory.

Alliance (10-2, 7-1) moves a half game ahead of Marlington for first place in the league with the win. The Dukes (12-2, 6-1) won a non-league game against Louisville on Friday.

Alliance survived six 3-pointers and 28 points from Minerva’s Brayden Costea, who was coming off a career-high 32 points in a win at Southeast on Tuesday. Connor Shingleton added 11 points for the Lions (4-10, 1-7).

MARLINGTON 61, LOUISVILLE 42 Casey Miller totaled 19 points and four assists as the host Dukes earned a quality win against former NBC rival Louisville.

Miller made five 3-pointers and Connor Evanich registered a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds for Marlington (12-2). Up 24-22 at the half, the Dukes outscored Louisville 19-5 in the third quarter to take control.

Tommy Skelding added 12 points for Marlington.

Hayden Nigro led Louisville (10-4) with 14 points. Will Aljancic and Tyler Boldon scored 10 points apiece. AJ Lingenhoel grabbed eight rebounds for the Leopards.

CANTON SOUTH 46, SALEM 30 Brady Noll scored 16 points as the Wildcats won a low-scoring EBC game on the road.

Peyton Karovic added 13 points for South (9-6, 4-3), which limited Salem (3-11, 2-6) to nine first-half points.

WEST BRANCH 55, CARROLLTON 54 Trailing 41-24 after three quarters, West Branch roared back with a 31-point fourth quarter to beat Carrollton on the road in EBC play.

Jaxon Hendershott scored 18 points to lead West Branch (10-2, 6-2), which stays a game behind league-leading Alliance (10-2, 7-1). Dru DeShields added 15 points.

Brock Smith, Jaxon Rinkes, Darick Miller and Cadyn Smith scored 12 points apiece for Carrollton. Miller grabbed eight rebounds.

MANCHESTER 54, FAIRLESS 41 The Panthers jumped out to 14-2 first-quarter lead on their way to a home PAC-7 win.

Daniel Sensius and Ben Noirot scored 13 points apiece for Manchester (10-7, 3-5), which has won five of its last six games.

ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 69, LAKE CENTER CHRISTIAN 65 Moses O’Neal’s 14 points led the balanced Knights to a home win.

Luke Burick scored 13 points, Chris Tackett 12 and Deshaun Leishman 10 for Aquinas, which had seven players score six points or more.

Ethan Bower scored 23 points and made four of Lake Center’s nine 3-pointers. Charlie Christopher scored 18 points for the Tigers, while Matt Warder added 11.

MALVERN 75, NEWCOMERSTOWN 22 KJ Thomas scored 17 points as the Hornets cruised to an IVC home win.

Dylan Phillips scored 14 points and Michael Minor 13 for Malvern (11-2, 7-0), which shot 61.2% from the floor. Newcomerstown (1-11, 0-7), which trailed 25-4 after one quarter, committed 20 turnovers overall.

TUSKY VALLEY 33, INDIAN VALLEY 27 Logan Stotzer scored 13 points and Silas Miller added 10 in the Trojans’ home IVC win.

Tusky Valley (11-4, 4-3) forced 15 turnovers and limited the Braves (9-5, 3-4) to 9-of-39 shooting from the floor and 3-of-16 from 3-point range.
