Friday roundup: Hoover beats Lake on Barker shot, Northwest maintains slim lead in PAC-7 boys basketball

HOOVER 49, LAKE 47 Eli Barker’s driving bucket with three seconds left gave the host Vikings a Federal League win.

Barker scored a game-high 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Tanner Ware scored 10 points for Hoover (12-4, 6-4), which shot 22-for-32 from the floor as a team.

Matt Mizner added nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from a 3-point range and a game-high six assists for the Vikings.

Chance Casenhiser had 14 points and four assists to lead Lake (10-6, 5-5), which has dropped four of its last five.

MCKINLEY 70, LOUISVILLE 59 Tra’Sean Foster scored a career-high 31 points as the Bulldogs won on the road.

Foster scored all of his 31 after the first quarter, including 11 in the fourth quarter, as McKinley (9-5) won its fourth straight game. The junior wing made 14 2-point baskets and no 3s. McKinley made 32 field goals, all but one from inside the arc.

Jahlil Graham added 13 points and Lazell Evans 11 for the Bulldogs, who took control by outscoring Louisville 22-9 in the second quarter.

Will Aljancic and Hayden Nigro combined for 44 of the Leopards’ points. Aljancic scored 23 and Nigro added 21 for Louisville (11-5).

JACKSON 49, GLENOAK 42 The Polar Bears snapped a three-game losing streak with a Federal League road win.

Jackson limited GlenOak to single digits in each of the first three quarters and took a 35-21 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Polar Bears were led by Kevin James’ 13 points. JJ Vaughan added 11 points, while Jovan Jovicic chipped in 10 to help Jackson (9-7, 6-3).

The Golden Eagles (6-8, 3-6) were paced by Ja’Corey Lipkins’ 15 points.

GREEN 75, PERRY 53 The Federal League-leading Bulldogs rolled to a road win.

Green jumped out to a 23-12 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

Jarrett Taylor scored 19 points to lead Green (15-2, 7-2). Trey Martin and Brady Rollyson each added 16 points as the Bulldogs won their fifth straight game.

Joel Brown scored 20 points, including five 3-pointers, for Perry (0-15, 0-9).

NORTHWEST 55, FAIRLESS 35 Northwest maintained its half-game lead over the rest of the PAC-7 by pulling away on the road.

An early 9-2 Northwest lead was turned into a 10-9 Fairless advantage on Brody Pumneo's 3-point basket with 1:02 remaining in the first quarter. However, freshman Chase Badger knocked down three consecutive 3-pointers, part of an 11-0 Northwest run that gave it a 20-10 lead in the second quarter.

"You just have to step up when it's your night," said Badger, who led Northwest with 14 points. "You just have to keep scoring. Whoever scores, just keep giving them the ball and keep going."

Northwest took a 25-16 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Falcons cut the deficit to 33-28 in the third quarter, but could get no closer.

Northwest (9-7, 8-2) has two league games remaining: Feb. 8 at Triway and Feb. 11 at home against CVCA, which is a half-game behind it in the standings at 7-2 in the league after beating Tuslaw on Friday.

"This is the first time we've pulled away in the fourth quarter," Northwest coach Mike Lower said. "Where we've taken the lead from 10 points to 20. That's the first time we've done it all year. Hopefully it's a sign of growth and things to come."

Fairless (7-11, 3-7) was led by Pumneo with 13.

CVCA 61, TUSLAW 53 Freshman Darryn Peterson scored 26 points to lead the Royals (10-6, 7-2) to a PAC-7 home win.

Three Tuslaw (9-8, 6-3) players combined to score 48 points — Ty Pratt with 21 points, Nate Frascone with 17 and Troy Harbeitner with 10.

MANCHESTER 50, TRIWAY 45 Ben Noirot had 22 points as the Panthers won a PAC-7 road game.

Zack Miller led Triway with 16 points. The Titans fell behind 16-8 after the first quarter and could not cut overcome the early deficit.

CANTON SOUTH 45, MINERVA 33 Brady Noll scored 13 points as the Wildcats won an Eastern Buckeye Conference game at home.

Akil Martin scored 10 points for South (10-7, 5-4). The Wildcats led 10-5 after the first quarter and never relinquished the advantage.

Connor Shingleton and Brandon Davis had 10 points each to lead Minerva (5-11, 2-8).

SALEM 56, WEST BRANCH 39 Cam Sampson scored 14 points as the Quakers upset visiting West Branch in EBC play.

It is the second big upset Salem (6-11, 4-6) has pulled within the EBC in the last week after rallying to beat Marlington 53-51 on Tuesday.

Brock Young added 12 points for Salem. Dru DeShields had 14 points to lead West Branch. Nick Wilson also had 11 points for the Warriors (11-3, 6-3), whose loss coupled with Alliance beating Marlington on Friday earned the Aviators at least a share of the EBC title.

MALVERN 75, EAST CANTON 64 Five Malvern players scored in double figures in an IVC home win.

Mitch Minor led Malvern with 17 points, followed by Michael Minor with 16, Connor Lefevre and KJ Thomas with 11 each and Dylan Phillips with 10.

Landen Demos led East Canton with 11 points. East Canton fell behind 43-21 by halftime.

TUSKY VALLEY 56, SANDY VALLEY 44 Logan Stotzer scored 30 points as the Trojans won at home.

Stotzer shot 12-of-19 from the floor. Silas Miller added 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting for Tusky Valley.

Kaiden Mastri led Sandy Valley with 16 points, eight rebounds and two steals.

LAKE CENTER 63, MOGADORE 60 2OTS Ethan Bower scored 26 points and Charlie Christopher added 20 as the Tigers won in double overtime at home.

Layne Miller hit four 3-pointers and led Mogadore with 19 points.
