Friday snowstorm hits southern Tuscarawas County hard; up to 1 foot of snow in some areas
TUSCARAWAS COUNTY ‒ After a couple of weeks of springlike weather, Old Man Winter returned with a vengeance Friday, dumping nearly a foot of snow in some portions of southern Tuscarawas County.
The heaviest snow fell in a line from Coshocton County through southern Tuscarawas County and into Harrison and Jefferson counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, 11.5 inches fell in Stillwater in Rush Township. Newcomerstown received around 9 inches. West Lafayette in Coshocton County got 8 inches, and 11 inches fell in Deersville in Harrison County.
Tiffany Poland, who lives in Rush Township, reported that nearly 12 inches fell there. Uhrichsville Mayor Jim Zucal said 6 inches fell in the city.
By contrast, Dover received just 2.6 inches, according to the weather service. Kimbolton, just south of Newcomerstown in Guernsey County, got 3 inches.
According to Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell, his office handled seven accidents Friday night, as well as a couple of disabled vehicles. "I think at one point there were a few cars sideways on Johnstown Road in Fairfield Township, but once one was towed the others were able to straighten out and leave."
