FRIDAY'S BOYS' BASKETBALL MATCHUPS

Bloomington South (2-0) at Bedford North Lawrence (0-1)

GAME TIME: 7:30 p.m.

RADIO: WGCL 1370 AM/98.7 FM; WVNI, 95.1 FM.

TWITTER: @Jeffbtmnews.

COACHES: J.R. Holmes, 720-226 in 40th year at Bloomington South, 863-344 in 52nd year overall. Jeff Hein, 29-22 in 3rd year at Bedford NL, 324-228 in 25th year overall.

LAST OUTING: Bloomington South defeated New Albany, 47-37. Bedford NL lost to Bloomington North, 66-47.

SERIES LAST 35 YEARS: Bloomington South, 26-14.

LAST MEETING: Bloomington South, 47-30, Dec. 4, 2020.

OUTLOOK: South has won with defense and solid 3-point shooting and hits the road for the first time this season. The Stars, missing two of its tallest starters in 6-2 junior Colten Leach and 6-3 Houston Corbin to knee injuries, still hung around at North until stumbling late with turnovers letting the Cougars get away. But this will be a different type of game, a lot more similar to last year's 17-point win by the stingy Panthers. South has won 17 straight in the series.

Brown County (1-1) at Eastern Greene (0-1)

GAME TIME: 7 p.m. (No JV).

COACHES: Jacob Guernsey, 1-1 in 1st year at Brown County. Jamie Hudson, 19-28 in 3rd year at Eastern Greene, 176-170 in 16th year overall.

LAST OUTING: Brown County defeated Columbus Christian, 57-50. Eastern Greene lost to Whiteland, 69-21.

SERIES LAST 35 YEARS: Eastern Greene, 23-15.

LAST MEETING: Eastern Greene, 49-46, Dec. 27, 2019.

OUTLOOK: Eastern will look to bounce back from a rough opener that saw three starters out from an already young team take a beating from 4A Whiteland. Kayden Bellmore (18 ppg) and senior Carter Kelly (14 ppg) lead an Eagle team with a new coach that's short on height and numbers, with just 13 on varsity and JV. But Eastern is down to 10 due to multiple injuries.

Cloverdale (0-2) at Edgewood (0-2)

GAME TIME: 7:30 p.m.

RADIO: WCLS 97.7 FM.

TWITTER: @amatricardiTM.

COACHES: Patrick Rady, 89-66 in 7th year at Cloverdale, 130-136 in 12th year overall. Matt Wadsworth, 29-25 in 3rd year at Edgewood, 170-153 in 15th year overall.

LAST OUTING: Cloverdale lost to Bloomfield, 54-22. Edgewood lost to Martinsville, 67-53.

SERIES LAST 35 YEARS: Edgewood, 27-5.

LAST MEETING: Edgewood, 73-59, Dec. 22, 2020.

OUTLOOK: Western Indiana Conference opener for both teams and back end of a girl-boy doubleheader. Clovers have had a rough go early, too, facing Terre Haute South on the road and running into 1A power Bloomfield in Terre Haute as well. 6-4 senior Kyle Thomas leads team at 14 ppg, hitting THS for 19. He averaged 20 last year. Mustangs will look for improvement on defense while giving up 62 ppg.
