Henderson County Public Schools announced at 11:30 a.m. Friday that all high school sporting events, including practices, are not being held.

"Based on the current conditions and the potential for snow showers later in the day, HCPS is not allowing practices or games today. Athletic directors can plan on playing games tomorrow (Saturday), with all contests planned to start after 12 p.m., the press release emailed to local media said.

"This will allow temperatures to get above freezing. If the weather conditions change because of snow accumulation overnight, the district will make a decision regarding Saturday game play in the morning."

The boys basketball game between the two top 2-A teams in the state, No. 1 Hendersonville at No. 2 R-S Central, was moved to Feb. 9.

Other games affected Friday were West Henderson at East Henderson and Smoky Mountain at North Henderson. Those games could be made up on Saturday, but schools haven't made a decision as of noon Friday.

Another big game postponed on Friday was the 1-A girls basketball game between No. 1-ranked Mountain Heritage and No. 2 Rosman, which was to be played at 6 p.m. Friday at Rosman. A make-up date hasn't been set yet.
