GIRLS BASKETBALL

Neenah 67, Hortonville 47

NEENAH - Allie Ziebell scored 36 points and had 11 rebounds to help the Rockets get past Hortonville in a battle of highly-ranked Division 1 teams.

Second-ranked Neenah clinched at least a share of the Fox Valley Association title with the win. The Rockets (22-1 overall, 16-1 FVA) can clinch the FVA outright with a win against Oshkosh West next week and a loss by Hortonville in any of the Polar Bears’ final two conference games.

“It was super cool with all the alumni being here just to carry on their legacy that they left here and also to see future generations,” Neenah standout Allie Ziebell said. “This win was just huge for us and it was a great atmosphere.”

Ava Kok added 15 points for the Rockets, who led 33-22 at the half.

Rainey Welson led third-ranked Hortonville (19-3, 14-2) with 21 points with Trinity Mocadlo adding 10.

APPLETON - The Wildcats rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to beat the Terrors.

Brenna Gehri led Oshkosh West with 15 points. Paige Seckar added 13 and Laina Hammen chipped in nine.

Freedom 72, Marinette 45

FREEDOM - Rylie Murphy scored 16 points and Gracie Martzahl added 11 as the Irish secured their fifth consecutive North Eastern Conference championship.

Freedom raced out to a 40-15 halftime advantage and never looked back.

In all, 11 Irish players scored in the game.

Riley Kieffer led Marinette with 19 points.

GREEN BAY - Mady Doering, Joy Krull and Anna Bettag combined for 39 points to lead the Hawks to the win over the Red Devils.

Doering scored a team-leading 15 points while Krull and Bettag scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, for Xavier.

Jamaya Mariner led Green Bay East with 10 points.

Brillion 59, Chilton 44

BRILLION - The Tigers raced out to a 22-4 lead in the first eight minutes before the Lions battled back to get the win.

“The second 10 minutes of the first half we decided to compete harder and play better defense to get stops,” Brillion coach Jeff Capelle said. “We were able to get shots inside and outside vs. the length of their 2-3 zone. In the second half we limited them on offense and were able to get out to a double-digit lead and finished the game strong. We were very balanced as a team.”

Megan Schuman led Brillion with 16 points. Camden Hale added 11 points.

Kendra Zahn was high scorer for Chilton with 16 points. Adahlyn Hoerl added 11.

KAUKAUNA - Seth Miron made a 3-pointer with 21 seconds remaining to give the Papermakers the win over the Ghosts.

Kaukauna missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Miron led Kimberly with 22 points. Michael Asman added 16 points, including 13 in the second half.

Kaukauna was led by Keegan Van Kauwenberg with 15 points and Jon O’Neill with 14.

APPLETON - Grant Hardy poured in 22 points as the Lightning took a 13-point halftime advantage and held off a late charge by the Patriots in Fox Valley Association action.

Garrett Staszak added 14 points, Abraham Tomari 12 and Trent Mullen 10 for Appleton North.

Joey La Chapell paced Appleton East with 22 points, while Caleb Glaser added 20.

Also scoring in double figures for the Patriots was Tyson Keil with 10 points.

FREEDOM - Ashton Peterson made five 3-point baskets in the first half to spark the Irish to a 13-point halftime lead in their win over the Spartans.

Peterson finished with 23 points for Freedom. Gavin Greiner, Drew Kortz and Rowan Lonigro added 15, 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Chase Bukouricz led Luxemburg-Casco with 18 points.

FOX CROSSING - Blayke Adamovich scored a power-play goal to tie the game at 1-1, but it wasn’t enough as Whitefish Bay scored twice in the third period to claim the victory.

Adding assists for the Stars were Ryan Ostermann and Owen Eckes.

Elliot Reichenbacher made 41 saves in net for Fox Cities.
