Friday's HS roundup: MacCannell's game-high 21 points leads Portsmouth to eighth straight win

MERRIMACK - Sophomore Maddie MacCannell scored a game-high 21 points and the Portsmouth High School girls basketball team beat Merrimack, 55-42 on Friday for its eighth straight win.

Portsmouth is now 9-1 on the season.

The Clippers outscored Merrimack 18-5 in the fourth quarter, breaking a 37-37 tie after three quarters.

Portsmouth junior Bella Slover added 19 points, including 14 in the second half, and sophomore Margaret Montplaisir had eight.

Defensively, Mia Smith stood out for the Clippers.

Freshman Madison McCafferty and senior Kaylee Bormuth both had 13 points for Merrimack (8-5).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Nashua North 25

EXETER – Junior Emma Smith had 15 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and three assists in this Division I win for Exeter.

Sophomore Ari Pompeo had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Hawks, while senior Erin McIlroy and freshman Grace Weed both had eight points.

Traip Academy 41

Cape Elizabeth 17

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine – Junior Hannah Thorsen had a game-high 20 points for Class C Traip Academy in this win over Class B Cape Elizabeth.

Emme Hale added nine points for the Rangers.

Bedford 54

Spaulding 20

BEDFORD – Junior Mackenzie Brochu led Spaulding with 11 points in this Division I loss. Jenna Philbrook added six for the Red Raiders.

Seacoast Christian 46

Temple Academy 23

ELIOT, Maine - Seacoast Christian (3-3) jumped out to a 22-2 lead after one quarter and never looked back in this Class D win.

Breckyn Winship had a game-high 22 points for the Guardians. She also had seven rebounds, six steals, and seven assists. Teammate Kaitlyn Jandreau added 11 points, while Bri Cluff had six points and six rebounds.

Isabella Baker’s 16 points led Temple.

DOVER - Abbie Kozlowski and Lilly Nossiff both had 10 points for Dover in this Division I loss.

Lanie Mourgenous and Payton Denning each had seven points for the Green Wave, who trailed by 19 in the second half.

JAFFREY – Elizabeth Flynn had 12 points and Abby Rayder had 11 for St. Thomas Aquinas (7-2) in this Division III loss.

HUDSON – Grace Vander Els had eight points and Casey Coleman had six for Winnacunnet (3-7) this Division I loss.

NASHUA – Ryan Luper had 15 points and Evan Pafford and Johnny Meyer both had 10 for Exeter in this Division I loss.

Jaydan Montgomery and Thomas Laurendi both had 16 points for Nashua North.

ELIOT, Maine – Seth Vega had 21 points and Isaiah Cardinal and Sunny Johnson both scored 13 for Seacoast Christian (2-4) in this Class D win.

Dan Poirier grabbed 12 rebounds for the Guardians.

EXETER – Ty Robinson had two goals and two assists for Exeter in this Division I win at The Rinks at Exeter.

Tyler Dickson had two goals for the Blue Hawks, while Keegan Knight had a goal and two assists, and Cam Keaveney had one goal, and one assist.

Cam Snee added two assists for Exeter, while teammates Kam Hyles and Eddie Hannan each had one.

Exeter goalie Henry Fraser had 17 saves.

Winnacunnet 11

METHUEN, Mass. - Senior Naish Kelly earned the shutout for Winnacunnet in this Division II win at Methuen High School. The Warriors had multiple goal scorers, improving to 4-5 overall, and 3-4 in Division II.
