Friday's local baseball roundup: Hudson Post 100 advances in American Legion Zone 4 playoff debut

Hudson 10, North County 0: Jason Jakobsons hurled a mercy-shortened, two-hit shutout with three strikeouts as host Hudson (15-8) won its wild-card round 1 game in the Zone 4 playoffs over North County (8-15).

The playoff victory was Hudson's first since moving to Zone 4 this year from Zone 5.

Fifth-seeded Post 100 visits No. 4 Leominster (15-7) at 11 a.m. Saturday at McLaughlin Park in a wild-card round 2 game. Third-seeded Milford (17-5) hosts No. 6 Framingham (14-9) in the other wild-card round 2 game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Fino Field.

Jakobsons also went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, a run and a stolen base in the five-inning game. Jakobsons, who picked up his third victory of the summer, collected his 19th and 20th RBIs of the season.

Brady Stuart, who opened the scoring with a two-run single, had two stolen bases and two runs. Peter Ward reached base four time, scoring twice and driving in a run. Hudson was fueled by a seven-run second inning.

Saturday's winners advance to four-team, double-elimination play starting Sunday. Top-seeded East Side hosts the lowest-remaining seed at 5 p.m. at Gaskill Field, and No. 2 Shrewsbury faces the highest-remaining seed at 7:45 p.m. at Tivnan Field.

Framingham 5, Northbridge 4: Cameron Athanas and Nicolas Artura each had two hits for visiting Northbridge (9-14) in a loss to Framingham (14-9) in a Zone 4 wild-card round 1 game at Bowditch Field. Post 74 scored twice in the sixth inning to overtake Post 343.

International League

WooSox 6, Norfolk 2: Left-hander Jay Groome, Boston's first-round draft pick in 2016, hurled six shutout innings in his Triple-A debut, scattering five hits while striking out five for visiting Worcester (46-42). 

Christin Stewart was 2 for 3 with a double and drove in three runs, and Devlin Granberg and Grant Williams also had two hits with an RBI each against the Tides (43-45).

Futures Collegiate League

Vermont 4, Bravehearts 1: Jack Goodman was 4 for 4, and Kosta Drosidis of Holden drove in a run for host Worcester (17-26), but the league-leading Lake Monsters (32-12) completed a two-game series sweep at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

Senior Ruth

Paul N. Johnson 10, New London, CT 5: D.J. Prampin doubled and drove in three runs, while Grady Freeman doubled and drove in a pair as Worcester's Paul N. Johnson team rolled in the opener in the New England Regional tournament in Maine. 

PNJ will take on the winner of Saturday's game between Cape Cod and Stamford CT winner at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Jacob Lucas (double, RBI) and Erik Martinez (double, 2 runs) each had two hits for PNJ, while Mike Mero and Nick Army (3 Ks) didn't give up an earned run.
