Friday's Top Prep Performers from baseball, softball, volleyball, lacrosse and swimming

Highlights from Friday in high school spring sports:

BASEBALL

  • Derek Turner allowed three hits while striking out nine in five scoreless innings and was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and three stolen bases, Max Amador went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Evan Needham was 2 for 4 with two stolen bases, Owen Meli had a hit and two RBIs, and Luke Medhurst pitched two scoreless innings to lead Newbury Park (9-5, 3-3) to a 7-0 victory over Oaks Christian in a Marmonte League game. Elijah Clayton was 2 for 3 with a stolen base and Tommy Farmer and Quentin Young had hits for the Lions (7-6, 3-3).

  • Sean Sims hit a grand slam and finished with five RBIs, Nate Castellon was 2 for 3 with a double and three runs scored, Matt Witkow went 1 for 3 with a double and two runs scored, and Tyler Shulman was 1 for 3 with an RBI to lead Calabasas (11-5, 3-3) to a 10-5 win over Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League game. Tommy Mueller was 2 for 2 with an RBI and Eli Steinhaus and Max Fernandez each had a hit and an RBI for the Lancers (6-10, 2-4).

  • Nate Franco was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Kaden Youmans finished 3 for 3 with a double, Nolan Johnson went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Andrew Cusworth had two RBIs to lead Westlake (11-4, 5-1) to a 6-2 victory over Agoura in a Marmonte League game. Braden Feli was 3 for 4, Jack Gewert had a hit and two RBIs, and Ethan Kearney had a double for the Chargers (7-9, 2-4).

  • Austin DeMello pitched six shutout innings and Hector Valdez earned the save with a shutout inning to lead Rio Mesa to a 1-0 win over Pacifica in nonleague game.

  • Anthony Cuevas allowed four hits and no earned runs while striking out four in a complete-game effort, Angel Casimiro had a pinch-hit, two-run single with the bases loaded, and Alex Tobias was 1 for 2 with an RBI to lead Santa Paula (10-5, 9-1) to a 5-1 win over Channel Islands in a Citrus Coast League game.

  • Matt Magana hit a sacrifice fly to score Jathan Magana in the bottom of the eighth to lift Fillmore to a 7-6 win over Malibu in a Citrus Coast League game. Jarod Uridel went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Santi Avila pitched four innings of relief to earn the win for the Flashes.

  • Erick Barron and Kyle Banks each had two hits and a run scored, Tanner Beltowski went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Gavin Morales and Carter Kimble each recorded a hit for Buena in its 4-3 loss to West Ranch in a nonleague game.

SOFTBALL

  • Jennie Jacinto went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Destanee Perez was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Jordan Gonzalez had a hit and two RBIs, Bridget Rodriguez had a hit and an RBI, and Divina Miranda got the win in the circle to lead Buena (5-9, 1-5) to a 5-4 victory over rival Ventura in a Channel League game. Sammi Barnard was 3 for 4 with an RBI, Cece Perez went 2 for 4, and Savanna Higgins had a hit and an RBI for the Cougars (6-6, 3-2).

  • Rio Mesa (11-1-1) defeated Cathedral Catholic 8-0 and JSerra 3-1 at the Michelle Carew Classic. Against Cathedral Catholic, Jocelyn Gomez was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Jadalynn Sovey had a double, and Jasmine Reyes struck out three in five scoreless innings. Against JSerra, Mariana Palazuelos hit a walk-off three run homer, Sarah Coccillos was 2 for 4, and Nicolette Hunter pitched an eight-inning no-hitter with three strikeouts.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

  • Logan Oliverson finished with 15 kills, three aces and two blocks, Nolan Higa had 32 assists, three aces and two blocks, Caleb Eschenberg had seven kills, three blocks and an ace, Parker Knupp contributed nine kills and two blocks, and Jacob Ritchie added eight kills and two blocks to lead Newbury Park (15-7, 7-1) to a 18-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-16 win over Calabasas in a Marmonte League match.

  • Oaks Christian improved to 13-12 overall and 5-3 in the Marmonte League with a 25-9, 25-14, 25-13 sweep of Agoura.

GIRLS LACROSSE

  • Reagan Laubner scored a career-high eight goals, Micah Shin had two goals and two assists, Elliana Dorsi had two goals, Sadi Le finished with a goal and two assists, and Sophia Campbell made seven saves to lead Newbury Park to a 15-8 win over Agoura in a Marmonte League game.

BOYS SWIMMING

  • Foothill Tech, St. Bonaventure and host Cate competed in a Tri-Valley League tri-meet. For Cate, Phin Stephenson won the 100 breaststroke (1:03.97). Ben White won the 200 freestyle (2:02.91) and 500 freestyle (5:32.76). Eric Jin won the 200 IM (2:17.30). Joba Samson won the 50 freestyle (23.48) and 100 freestyle (53.34). Cyrus Symington won the 100 butterfly (54.44) and 100 backstroke (58.31).

GIRLS SWIMMING

  • Foothill Tech, St. Bonaventure and host Cate competed in a Tri-Valley League tri-meet. For Foothill Tech, Cynthia Hu won the 100 freestyle (57.26) and 200 freestyle (2:00.59). Charlie Woo-Bloxberg won the 200 IM (2:17.97) and the 100 breaststroke (1:13.48). For Cate, Stella Rogers won the 50 freestyle (26.85). Jen Won won the 100 butterfly (1:03.54). Myla Van Lynde won the 500 freestyle (6:36.90). Angie Zoric won the 100 backstroke (1:13.90).
