Fried chicken. Burgers. Espresso martinis. Local restaurant plans another KC area spot

Third Street Social will be an anchor in Metro North Crossing.

The 7,000-square-foot restaurant is taking a corner space, at 400 N.W. Legacy Drive, in Woodstone, the $60 million luxury apartment and mixed-use project within the redevelopment. A late fall opening is scheduled.

Andy Lock and Domhnall Molloy opened the first Third Street Social, at 123 S.E. Third St. in downtown Lee’s Summit, in 2016. The 70-year-old historic Arnold Hall building was where President Harry S. Truman announced the start of his political career. The street serves as the source of its name combined with “social” in reference to the social dining experience and large lively bar.

A south Plaza location opened in 2021.

Third Street Social is known for its classic American burgers and comfort food such as fried chicken, chicken pot pie, Hawaiian rib-eye, and shrimp and grits. The restaurants serve lunch, dinner, daily happy hour and weekend brunch. Cocktails include a spiced pear and bourbon, espresso martini and a cilantro jalapeno margarita.

Lock and Molloy also own the Summit Grill locations in Gladstone, Lee’s Summit and Waldo; Boru Asian Eatery and South of Summit Taqueria & Tequila in Waldo; and Pearl Tavern in Lee’s Summit.

Metro North Crossing is a 106-acre mixed-use, $250 million development on the site of the former Metro North Shopping Center. Macy’s, Olive Garden and McDonald’s still operate in the complex. Whataburger and Hawaiian Bros Island Grill recently opened freestanding restaurants, and T-Shotz operates a 52,000 square-foot golf entertainment venue.

In a statement, Dan Horn, project manager for Metro North Crossing LLC, said: “Since we started the Metro North Crossing project, we’ve heard from Northlanders that there is a definite need for more quality local restaurants. We’ve had Domhnall and Andy at the top of our list for years, so it’s very exciting to be able to announce Third Street Social. This is a big deal for our project and this area of the Northland.”
