Friend de Coup takes home first runner-up at 2024 Southwest Showdown
Feb. 5—LINCOLN, Nebraska — Friend De Coup earned a first runner up finish, the Barn Burner Award as well as best vocalist Feb. 3 during the 2024 Southwest Showdown at Lincoln Southwest High School in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Max Bruguier also earned the best vocalist nod at the competition for Friend de Coup.
It was the second time the Mitchell High School show choir competed at the Southwest Showdown. In 2022, FDC was headed to a competition outside St. Louis, Missouri when a snowstorm rerouted them. With two days notice, the Southwest Showdown welcomed them, and FDC received Grand Champion at that competition.
Other finalists in order of placement were:
Express, Lincoln East High School, Lincoln, Nebraska: grand champion, vest vocals, best choreography, best band
Gold, Norris High School, Firth, Nebraska: second runner up
Free Spirit, Papillion-La Vista High School, Papillion, Nebraska: third runner up
Monarchy, Papillion-La Vista High School, Papillion, Nebraska: fourth runner up
Voices N' Harmony, Lincoln Northeast High School, Lincoln, Nebraska: fifth runner up, fan favorite
Friend de Coup has several more performances scheduled for this competition season, including their next event during the Great River Show Choir Invitational in Davenport, Iowa. That event is scheduled to take place Feb. 17.
