The Friendly Toast In Cambridge Closes

CAMBRIDGE, MA — The Friendly Toast has closed its Cambridge location.

The popular all-day breakfast spot, which also served a variety of mimosas, bloody Mary's and other cocktails, closed in March amid the coronavirus pandemic and will not reopen.

"Over the past couple of months, we've been slowly and safely reopening our restaurants with every precaution in mind to keep our team and guests safe, the Friendly Toast's management said in a Facebook post. "We cannot thank you all enough for overwhelmingly positive support we've received in these very challenging restaurant and life times."

All other locations are expected to remain in business, including in Boston's Back Bay, Burlington, Bedford, New Hampshire and Burlington, Vermont.

Steve Clark, a spokesperson fro the Massachusetts Restaurant Association, said the pandemic besieged the industry, and more restaurants like the Friendly Toast are likely to shutter as winter approaches.

"While some closings get more headlines, each closing is its own individual tale of sadness," Clark said. "Sad for the operators and employees that worked hard every day to make the operation beloved, sad for guests that loved to patronize these restaurants and sad for the community that loses part of the fabric that brought it together. The restaurant industry is resilient and will come back, but on days like today it seems that recovery is a little further away than any of us want it to be."
