Earlene Fullwood of Alliance spent a day full of smiles on Sunday as she greeted friends and even strangers who drove past her East Summit Street home to deliver cards celebrating her 100th birthday.

Fullwood sat on the red front porch of her home at East Summit and Wade Avenue, welcoming people who had been invited to “Drive by – Drop a card – Wave goodbye,” according to signs posted around the area to encourage what was called a 100-card drive-by event.

The celebration brought back memories of the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when area residents marked milestones with drive-by events, to allow for social distancing. Posters for Sunday's party mentioned those taking part should “Drive by. Honk and wave!” and pointed out there was to be “no stopping in or dropping in.”
