Friends From College Cancelled After 2 Seasons at Netflix

Friends From College has been expelled. Netflix has cancelled the ensemble comedy after two seasons, a Netflix rep confirms to TVLine. The show’s co-creator, Nicholas Stoller, announced the news late Monday on Twitter.

Starring a TV vet-stacked cast that included Cobie Smulders, Keegan-Michael Key, Annie Parisse, Nat Faxon, Fred Savage, Jae Suh Park and Billy Eichner, Friends From College debuted in July 2017. The series’ eight-episode second season — which featured a guest turn by Scrubs‘ Sarah Chalke — dropped on Jan. 11.

In a statement, Netflix thanked EPs Stoller and Francesca Delbanco “for creating a wise, funny and supremely relatable show,” while also giving props to the “hard-working crew” and “amazingly talented cast.”

News of the show’s cancellation broke just hours after Netflix confirmed that it had axed its two remaining Marvel series, Jessica Jones and Punisher. All told, the streamer has cancelled nearly two dozen programs in the past year, including long-running hits (Orange Is the New Black), critical gems (American Vandal) and buzzy upstarts (Everything Sucks!).
