Friends group advocates for, supports Anderson Library

Established in 1986, the Friends of the Anderson County Library (FACL) has raised thousands of dollars through the Friends' bookstore sales and fundraising events. These funds enable our library system to move from good to great – providing resources for additional programming, much-needed equipment and materials, support for children’s summer reading, and special events throughout the year.

But money isn’t the only thing the Friends contribute; last year, dozens of county residents and FACL members dedicated their time to supporting programs and events.

The work of the FACL highlights the fact that our library is the cornerstone of the community, providing opportunities for all to engage in the joy of lifelong learning and to connect with the thoughts and ideas of others, from ages past to the present. The Friends’ gift of time and commitment to the library sets an example for all in how volunteerism leads to positive civic engagement and the betterment of our community.

The Friends understand the critical importance of well-funded libraries and advocate to ensure that our library system gets the resources it needs to provide a wide variety to all ages, including access to print and electronic materials, recreation and creative opportunities, and expert assistance in research, readers’ advisory, and children’s services.

Oct. 15-21 is the 18th annual National Friends of Libraries Week, and we invite our friends and neighbors to join us in the celebration.

Stop by the Main Library to visit The Friends' bookstore and new gift shop or the circulation desk at any of the branch locations (Belton, Honea Path, Iva, Lander [Williamston], Piedmont, Powdersville and Westside Community Center) or the Bookmobile to pick up a brochure and join the Friends of the Anderson County Library. Mention National Friends of Libraries Week and receive a bookcase bookmark or reading/library-related decal/sticker or temporary tattoo of your choice while supplies last.
