Friends’ shock at death of Lady Gabriella Windsor’s husband

Friends of Thomas Kingston, the husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor, have spoken of their shock at his death, ahead of a post mortem examination on Wednesday afternoon.
Police have ruled out suspicious circumstances in the 45-year-old’s death. He married Lady Gabriella, the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor in 2019 in a service that was attended by members of the Royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II.
A close friend of the family, who had seen the couple recently, said: “We are really shocked. He was so young.”
The family friend described Lady Gabriella and Kingston as “very close as a couple”, saying they were “happily married” and had “seemed perfectly fine” at a dinner party a few months ago.
Kingston, a committed Christian, was found dead at an address in Gloucestershire on Sunday evening. A statement issued on behalf of his widow and his parents, Martin and Jill Kingston, and his sisters, described Kingston as “an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him”.
They said the sudden death had “come as a great shock to the whole family” and requested privacy “as we mourn his passing”.
Kingston, who worked in finance, had previously been a hostage negotiator in Baghdad in the early 2000s after completing a degree at Bristol University.
A spokesman for Gloucestershire Coroner’s Service said: “We have no information to share with the public at this moment in time. Further information will be released as and when is necessary.
“We are dealing with the death of a 45-year-old male and are awaiting a post-mortem to establish the cause of death. The post mortem exam will take place today and further information will be released if a coroner opens an inquest.”
Gloucestershire police said: “We were called by the ambulance service at 6.25pm on Sunday with a report of the death of a 45-year-old man at an address in the Cotswolds.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Locals in the Kingstons’ home village spoke of their upset. Kamlesh Chudasama, 61, who has been the postmaster in Kemble for 35 years, described Kingston as a “gentle soul”, adding that his “thoughts and prayers” were with the family.
Mr Chudasama said: “We are all so sad to hear terrible news. They are a lovely, gentle family who do a lot for the village and the church. They are a big part of the local community.
“Thomas popped into the shop a lot, he would come by every so often. I last saw him a few months ago. He was a very gentle soul, just like his father. Everyone is in shock, it’s really sad and very fresh.
“Martin [Kingston’s father] comes into the post office all the time. He is a regular customer.
“But I haven’t seen him since the death. When I do see him I will tell him how sorry I am to hear about the death and that my thoughts and prayers are with them all.”
