Friends actress Lisa Kudrow has found her next role as she's set to star in a new sitcom for E4 and Netflix.

The comedy drama series, with the working title Mae and George, comes from award-winning Canadian comedian Mae Martin as she delves into her own story, exploring love, addiction and where the two overlap.

In the series, which has begun production in Manchester, Kudrow will play Mae's mother Linda, and she's described as a powerful and charismatic woman who, despite living in Canada, still manages to impact Mae's life from afar.

"I'm thrilled to be playing Linda but I first fell in love with Mae and the scripts she and Joe [Hampson] wrote," the actress said in a statement. "It's sweet and very funny and awkward and well observed."

Also joining the cast of the new series is Call the Midwife and Fresh Meat star Charlotte Ritchie, who plays Mae's new girlfriend George, described as being both the balm to Mae’s anxiety and the cause of it.

"It is a total dream to be involved in a show like this," Charlotte added. "It is so thoughtfully written and full of beautiful details but also makes me laugh so much. I feel so very grateful to be part of it."

The rest of the cast includes Ophelia Lovibond, Tom Durant-Pritchard and Al Roberts as George's friends Binky, Hugh and Jared, while Pippa Haywood stars as George's mum Felicity.

Ritu Arya, Tobi Bamtefa, Steen Raskopoulos, Jack Barry, Ramon Tikaram, Sindhu Vee, Rosalind March and Tom Andrews will all also feature in the series.
