Fries throws five-inning no-hitter in varsity debut

Mar. 31—PORT CLINTON — Freshman Landon Fries threw a five-inning no-hitter in his varsity debut, and the St. Paul offense did the rest in a 11-0 win over host Port Clinton in a non-league game on Friday.

Fries struck out nine and walked one and hit one batter on 62 pitches (40 strikes).

Meanwhile, the Flyers (2-2) got three hits and three runs from Ben Burger, and Kole Maxwell singled and drove in four runs.

"Solid win today," St. Paul head coach Aaron Fries said. "Landon was dominant today. He did a great job of keeping hitters off balance. His curveball was really sharp.

"Offensively, we were a little more aggressive in the run game and it paid dividends for us," Fries said.

Also for St. Paul, Thomas Zuccaro was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Alex Weaver was 2-for-3 and drove in two. Luke Blum doubled and had an RBI for St. Paul, which is scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday at Sycamore Mohawk.
